“Friendly Fire Incident” Takes Down Three U.S. F-15Es in Kuwait

(MENAFN) The US Central Command disclosed Monday that three American fighter jets were downed over Kuwait in a friendly fire incident, after Kuwaiti air defenses mistakenly engaged their own allied aircraft.

CENTCOM confirmed that the aircraft — three F-15E Strike Eagles — were operating in support of an active military operation when they were struck. "At 11:03 p.m. ET (0403 GMT), March 1, three U.S. F-15E Strike Eagles flying in support of Operation Epic Fury went down over Kuwait due to an apparent friendly fire incident," the statement read, adding that the fighter jets were "mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses."

All six crew members aboard the three jets ejected and were successfully recovered, CENTCOM confirmed, with personnel reported in stable condition.

Kuwait has since taken responsibility for the incident, drawing a measured acknowledgment from US military officials. "Kuwait has acknowledged this incident, and we are grateful for the efforts of the Kuwaiti defense forces and their support in this ongoing operation," CENTCOM said.

The loss of three frontline strike aircraft to allied fire marks a significant and costly battlefield error, raising immediate questions about coordination protocols between US and Kuwaiti forces as Operation Epic Fury remains actively underway.
